Celebrating the end of the 2023 race with military volunteers.

Perhaps as the result of a mid-life crisis, Chris Chalkley became a runner in 2015 after getting hooked on Obstacle Course Racing (OCR). Since then, he has built out his own 30+ obstacle course in King George to train for events like Spartan Race, Tough Mudder, and Savage Race. He runs frequently with the King George Running Team (KGRT), enjoying the camaraderie and encouragement to continuously tackle new challenges as age group milestones pass by. His proudest running moments include helping Ainsley’s Angels adaptive athletes partake in trail running and OCR, completing 100K as part of the World’s Toughest Mudder 24-Hour Endurance Challenge, and finishing in 4th place at the grueling OCR World Championships (15K) for age group 50+. Elsewhere, Chris has completed several ultras (RedEye 50K, Dam Yeti, Spartan Ultra), four marathons (Marine Corps Marathon, Richmond Marathon) and many half marathons including the Park-to-Park Half, Historic Half, Richmond Half, and Navy-Air Force Half.

A frequent visitor to the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (DRHT), Chris organized a meetup via Facebook in 2018 to run the trail between two Sheetz stores. With generous support from the local Sheetz and King George county, this informal fun run of 20 runners grew into the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run we know today. As race director, his four-point mission for Sheetz-to-Sheetz includes: (1) bring people of all abilities and backgrounds to enjoy the DRHT; (2) encourage a fun break from competitive races; (3) give back to the community; and (4) promote King George County as a trail running destination. When not running, Chris enjoys photography and scanning the aisles of Home Depot for new obstacle build inspiration.

Don alberto
Race Logistics Master

A retired naval officer and federal employee, Don Alberto is an adventurer at heart and likes to live on the edge! His explorer instinct has led him on expeditions around the world, starting with a trek to Mount Everest Base Camp in Nepal with two brothers and a sister. That experience in 2018 became the catalyst for many other trekking and climbing adventures. Since then, he has climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, hiked all around the Mont Blanc region in France, and nearly summited Bolivia’s 19,974’ Huayna Potosi Mountain. This past summer, Don (along with Race Director, Chris) backpacked 52 miles across Iceland’s interior along the spectacular Laugavegur and Fimmvörðuháls trails. He is currently in training for his latest challenge, a two-week trek to Ecuador in January 2025 to attempt technical climbs of Cotopaxi (19,347’) and Chimborazo (20,549’) mountains. Although he has never participated in the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run (likely because it doesn’t offer 10,000 feet of elevation gain), Don has served as the race’s Traffic and Safety Coordinator since 2023. His fine work there has earned him a promotion to take on the additional responsibilities of Race Logistics Master.

kevin biondi
Runner and volunteer advocate

A long-time resident of King George, Kevin recently retired from a fulfilling career as a software developer for the federal government. His office is now the great outdoors where his passion and dedication to the preservation and improvement of local trails is quite evident. When he’s not running on the Dahlgren Railroad Heritage Trail (DRHT), you’ll often find him volunteering for trail maintenance. In fact, he has been an active member of the local community for many years, currently serving as Treasurer for the Friends of the DRHT. He has been a faithful volunteer to the Sheetz-to-Sheetz Trail Run for several years, giving full days to help set up the remote course. Kevin is also a member of the King George Fall Festival Committee where he founded and manages a growing fun run each year. As a runner, his resume includes the Marine Corps Historic Half, the Air Force/Navy Half, Ainsley’s Angels run team, and nearly every race along the DRHT including four Sheetz-to-Sheetz finishes. In retirement, he has become quite the endurance athlete, completing the Prince William 12-Hour Ultra and the Richmond Marathon. Always looking to give back, Kevin joins our staff as Runner and Volunteer Advocate where he’ll gain invaluable experience to apply towards his own race director certification.
